The Land in Transition: Map of My Kingdom tours in Wisconsin

Map of My Kingdom, a one-woman play by award-winning writer Mary Swander, will be performed at Driver Opera House Center for the Arts, 250 Main Street, Darlington, WI on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 7:00pm. Hosts are Peoples Company Land Agent Adam Crist and Duxstad McDaniel Law Group, S.C.
Peoples Company, an agricultural land services firm based in Clive, Iowa, has announced a national awareness campaign to address the impending transfer of over 370 million acres, approximately 40% of U.S. farmland, expected by 2045.
This initiative features Map of My Kingdom, a one-woman play by Mary Swander, spotlighting the emotional and financial challenges families face during farmland transition. In 2014, Swander, an author with a national and international reputation, was commissioned to write the play by Practical Farmers of Iowa. The play has toured from coast to coast, from the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, to New York University, to Clackamas Community College near Portland, Oregon.
Peoples Co. is bringing performances of Map of My Kingdom to several cities in the Midwest, featuring actors Erika Kuhn, April Hubbard and Stacy Brothers. Peoples Co. has also released a free online video of the play with an introduction by President Steve Bruere, and has reissued a guide for landowners, “Your Farmland and the Future” by Teresa Opheim.

The campaign aims to encourage proactive planning to prevent fragmentation of farmland ownership and to preserve long-term land stewardship. To attend a live performance of Map of My Kingdom, please register here. The performances are free of charge.
